The Darmouth – Sunapee area is the ‘quiet’ vacation playground of NH.  No theme parks, no tourist meccas, just a wholesome great spot for ‘low key’ family vacations.

Named after renowned Dartmouth College and beautiful Lake Sunapee, the area has good skiing, pristine lakes, small towns and excellent parks at one end, and all the culture, excitement and arts of an Ivy League school / college town at the other.

The area has two significant lakes: Lake Sunapee and Mascoma Lake. The Mascoma shore line is predominantly privately held although the community of Enfield operates a public beach. Lake Sunapee enjoys more public access, with public docks, dinner cruises and a significant state park.

Appreciable summer and winter fun can be had at Mt. Sunapee, skiing and zip lines among them.

The area hosts the 9-day NH Craftsman Fair in August, going stronger than ever after 80 years. Nearby Hillsboro is home to the Living History Event held each year on the 3rd weekend of August. Cannons roar, battles are reenacted, and period arts, crafts and cooking are practiced.

Some of the best area information can be gleaned from the Lake Sunapee Region Chamber of Commerce. Once in the area, stop at a rest area or any grocery and pick up a free copy of the SooNipi Magazine for a complete area calendar of events. If you are visiting more towards Lebanon, try the online calendar at the Valley News.
